Dominica: Living the Dream
The climate in Dominica is pleasant, especially during the cooler months of December and March. Dominicans are described by travellers as the friendliest people in all of the Caribbean. This claim is supported by the almost non-existent crime rate. Only about 25% of the island’s land is currently cultivated due to its mountainous terrain. However, the rich soil can produce good export and domestic crops. The economic potential of organic agriculture is great.
The citizenship by investment program was created in 1993 to help boost the country’s agricultural-based economy. The country’s economy has become heavily dependent on tourism in recent years thanks to an increase of real estate investments. Over 74,000 people live on the island’s 750km2. Approximately 3,000 of them are the last Carib people left in the Caribbean. Dominica has a virtually zero crime rate. The currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar, which is pegged at the US dollar.
