Citizenship Through Investment

SS 10 (6), the Austrian Citizenship Act, states that foreign citizens can be granted citizenship if they have exceptional merit. This can take many forms, including economic ones. It may include capital contribution or any other economic benefit that is brought to Austria. Austrian citizenship cannot be granted based on a single capital contribution. A foreign investor must also make an extraordinary contribution to the country, such as creating new technologies or a significant number of jobs. A significant amount of direct investment is required. Passive investments, such as in real estate or government bonds, are not allowed. Each case is treated individually.
